Banjaras Exhibits in France- Paris

Banjaras was also invited to showcase its drapes for a week in a store in Paris that showcased India to Parisians in its own quirky way.. From 'nautanki' chai glasses to big steel 'thalis' from handmade Indian artifacts to handcrafted drapes.. this store had it all!! As you walked into the store remix Hindi hymns n chants welcomed the ears.. It was a learning curve for us to get hands on experience on the likes and dislikes of the European Market.. and what better place than Paris..!!

Urban Masala- The store

The store we dispalyed in, Urban Masala, a relatively new place is situated in the youthful locality of Bastille.. It has its own routine clientele who like the owners share their love for India. It was very heartening to know that people are so eager to know about the art forms present in Indian textiles and are curious to know more and more about it..

Display of the drapes from Banjaras

While some bought the stoles and 'duppattas' for their personal use.. Many bought it for more innovative purposes- stand alone, uniques 'duppattas' for roman blinds, painted pieces as tablecloths, embroidered drapes as wall hangings, weaves and block prints for sofa backs and backdrops..

A customer wanting to know more..

The drapes were very well appreciated and the owners of the store would like us to carry on this association in the future...

Banjaras Exhibits in France- Bazaars

After 20 years of local and national presence, Banjaras took its first step forward internationally by exhibiting its creations in 3 different locations in France- Chatillon, Blaneau and the fashion capital itself- Paris.
It was an honour for us to have been invited by the Deputy Mayor of Chatillon to display our drapes and gift articles at the local Christmas bazaar that took place on the second Friday of December.

With the mayor's wife and Deputy Mayor, Ms. Isabelle Robineau

A Visitor intrigued by the Colours

Visitors and customers were happily amused and excited to see the array of colours on display and the creations of weavers and block printers of India.. it is here that we realized that India to them is still a mystical fantasy.
Before making a choice

Taken over by sheer curiosity of the potpourri we had to offer them, we had a constant stream of people, men and women, throng our counter, despite the heavy rain and the temperature falling below 2 degrees! The film that showcased the outbacks of rural India and the tough conditions the artisans work in made the viewer realize that it was not a pick-up-from-the-rack object that they were buying. Products on offer were ideal gifts for Christmas with a sense of uniqueness.. Each object different and made by hand..

The official committee of the town were extremely hosptiable and helped us in all that we required on the chilly morning of the bazaar, including helping us make steaming 'masala' chai to bring in the true flavour of India..
